This article is about journalists reported the wrong contents about Malaysia Airlines, they break the code of ethics.

On Saturday, March 8th, around 12:41am, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370(Boeing 777-200ER) departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport en route to being. Air traffic controllers could not contact the plane over the sea between Malaysia and Vietnam at 1:30AM. Later it was confirmed that the aircraft’s transponder had stopped working. At the time, the aircraft was flying in the opposite direction from its scheduled route (Colwell, N. 2014). Since its disappearance, more than 24 countries have joined in the search for the plane (Winener-Bronner, 2014). On 6th Aug, 2015, the Malaysian prime minister announced that a week before on July 29th, that Reunion Island found remains of BOEING 777 Aircraft, which belonged to the MH370 Flight. Because a result of finding this piece of the plane, finally Malaysia Airlines finally confirmed the MH370 crash.

During the previous period when the crash could not be confirmed, there were many misleading reports, which negatively impacted society. Chengdu night newspaper reported the flight was hidden by a Party which was against their own government. This report violates the MEAA journalists’ code of Ethics, reporting and interpreting honestly, striving for accuracy (2014). “Do not suppress relevant available facts or give distorting emphasis. Accuracy and honestly are the most important qualities for journalists” (MEAA, 2014). In this essay I will evaluate the media how communicate when a huge crisis in communications happens.

Misleading reports will also lead to losing credibility the media via general public. Chengdu night news said a Party, which is against the government’s Party, gave a call to the government, and talked with the Prime Minister. In the call they said they knew where MH370 was, and threatened the government if they did not agree with their draft of law, against the governing Party, they would shoot down the MH370.The government did not answer them. They said this was what the MH370 disappearance. This report was transmitted by social media, newspapers and television, CCTV-1 and other channel reported this news, this event was called a political conspiracy. The news aroused the concern of society and the masses, and aroused other countries’ focus. Citizens fought for government and made the government surrender its direction. The journalist of Chengdu night news said this is the truth, and people cannot find this airplane anymore. Several days later, Chinese News confirmed this was a fake report; the journalists wanted to get more fame and wealth, and he did not think his language would make trouble for society and government. According to Halim (2014), language is considered the most important element of a text. It is the site where meaning is changed. The report misleads the public and media, bringing serious consequences. I think it further caused the public to lose trust in the media, and some social media platforms will not be believed.

Concerning this issue, there are some differences between countries’ reports. When people discuss an issue using language, their reports are different because the journalists experiences are different. From a phenomenological perspective, “theories in the phenomenological tradition assume that people actively interpret. What happens around them and come to understand the world bu personal experience with it “(Littlejohn & Foss,.2011). When the Japanese broadcast this issue, they did more research and made sure details were correct and authentic. When the Japanese News reported that people had found a part of a Boeing 777, they used many images to describe the information about this. They predicted that the part of the Boeing 777 was MH370 because they received information about testing the remains. Due to different experience and ways of thinking, journalists choose different ways to report. Some reports tell the truth to people, and a small percentage of report’s truth can only be ascertained through direct experience, but we must be disciplined in how we experience things. As time passed, the reports became more and more specific in details. People thought the Chengdu night news was not very bad and even people who knew the news was publishing misleading reports, they did not really care about it

I think there are several reasons why that can contribute to misleading reporting of news, mostly for personal benefits and other political purposes. Sometimes journalists use their imagination and do not do any research before writing a report because they want their report to be the first. Under pressure, they have to do this. Some journalists want their news and so-called “evidence” to be more persuasive, so they perform some auxiliary methods to change the false findings into alleged real evidence. In reporting the MH370 crash, Chengdu night news violated the Journalists’ code of Ethics, reporting and interpreting honestly, striving for accuracy. Do not suppress relevant available facts or give distorting emphasis. I think accuracy and honestly are the most important qualities for journalists. After that misleading report, Chengdu night news reported some wishes and some positive reports for MH370.I think that is a good way to establish a new image. Chengdu night news choose a positive heading “come back MH370, all of us are waiting for you!”. This heading represented the heartfelt wishes of people around the world. We can understand Chengdu night news, the journalists wrote some article under many pressures, such as the boss, the audience and the competition of peer journalists. However, these objective factors are not an excuse to can create fake news. No one wants to be cheated twice; only sincere to impress the audience is the key of being a good journalist.

In conclusion, journalists are different from other professions in society, using skills to achieve a specific social demand. The primary role of being a journalist is to serve the common interests of newspapers, television and the Internet. The essential obligation of being a journalist should be honesty with the public. All of us know MH370 is gone, and its 239 passengers went missing. Reports whether good or bad has failed to return the light. For those journalists who wrote false news to earn money, it is time to rethink . Do you think you live up to the reporter’s code of ethics, live up to the most basic obligation for you? Please remember that life is always more important than money. Only when you tell the truth to the world, will the world give you the real thing at the same time. Please do not lie to deceive the truth of others.
